TEMA, CENTRE OF THE WORLD

TEMA, CENTRE OF THE WORLD

This mosaic mural was made by African and American students as a collaboration between the cities of San Diego and Tema (Ghana) through the San Diego Tema Sister City Society. We brought 5 American high school students with us to work together with the art students of Chemu Senior Secondary School in Tema, Ghana. Because Tema lies only four degrees north of the equator, on the Greenwich Meridian, some like to call this city “The Centre of the World”. We created this mural to honor the local and cultural heritage of Ghana and this port city. The mosaic beautifies a wall on the community center in Community One.

On this page you will find images of students and others working on the
mosaic, progress pics, and images of the final piece. Also, be sure to
watch the timelapse video and check out the press surrounding the project.
